About The Painting:
Commencing upon the precipice of homelessness, “The Boy In The Box” follows the rigid geometric structuring of the “The Up-Side Of Down” and represents the perpetual quest for personal freedom and breaking outside of the box.
This will forever be one of my favorite paintings because of who and what it represents. Deanne Hastings was my best friend and muse who tragically went missing at the end of 2015 and has yet to be found. It is suspected that she was murdered, but there has been no closure to date and I don't know when there will be. This painting reflects the scenic overhead view on my first cross-country visit to see Deanne and help her with her recovery after a relapse in Coeur d'Alene. I remember her reaching out for help, dropping everything, and making sure I was by her side the very first moment I could be when called upon. Whatever she needed from me, I was committed to being there for her and loving her unconditionally.
Deanne always called me her "Wings" and is the reason I have them tattooed on my back. I just wish I could have there for her this last time when she really needed me most. I could sense the call was going to come, but it never did, and part of me knew why. I've always felt that I failed her by not being there that last time, though I wanted to be and would have been. I think one of the reasons I work so hard is because of Deanne. I always tried so hard to impress her and make her proud. The last time I saw her, she told me she was. I will forever do whatever I can to keep her spirit alive through my creations. She is now my "Wings" and my angel. I love you Deanne.
Deanne inspired a number of my my best and most personal paintings. I keep reminders of her in my studio, including the last postcard from a tribute exhibition I did for her in 2010 that portrays the very first painting she ever inspired, "Midnight Dancer (Take Me Away)." I also have her handprints from her last visit, which she placed on my "10 Year Floor Canvas," framed and always within view. I will never part with those. The remainder of the paintings she inspired were sent to her family for her children to one day have...happy and beautiful memories of their mother.

A giclee (pronounced zhee-clay) is a high-end and upscale fine art reproduction. Each giclee is custom created just for you and stretched on a 1.5" stretcher bar.
In the giclee process, the image is generated from a high-resolution digital scan and printed with UV inks onto archival quality canvas. An ultra-fine stream of non-toxic water based ink, more than 4 million droplets per second, is jet-sprayed onto the canvas. This produces a combination of over 3 million possible colors resulting in prints that are lush and vibrant with the look and tonality of a fine art painting. A fantastic advantage of giclee printing is that the digital images can be reproduced to almost any size, giving me the ability to customize prints for a specific client.
Giclee prints have gained worldwide acceptance in the art community and can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Louvre in Paris, displaying works which cannot be allowed out of the museum cellars and would otherwise never be shown to the public.
Take a canvas giclee, give it a little extra love, make it one-of-a-kind, and you’ll have an artist enhanced giclee. My artist enhanced giclees are custom created and painted specially for you. I hand-embellish each one of these creations with paint, adding brushstrokes, textures, and pops of color. The paint really brings the giclee to life, adding bright and vivid energy. There is nothing like it. My artist enhanced giclees are the next best thing to my originals and at a fraction of the cost. Each one is hand-signed by yours truly.
