Artist Tip: Selling More Art 🖼️
I have sold hundreds of paintings and over a million dollars in art over the course of my career...so far. This past weekend, I sold four paintings. There's one particular pattern I have noticed over and over again about selling art. It's easier to sell art when your art is selling. Allow me to better explain...
Even as a full-time career artist, I have major droughts. I have days, weeks, sometimes months when absolutely nothing is selling. Don't let the illusions of social media fool you. Even artists at the higher levels of the industry have struggles and slow periods, particularly in the current market. It's rough out there. When you do have an opportunity or a success, you really do have to make the most of it.
After a slow couple weeks, this past weekend I had a painting find a forever home. That sale turned into two sales. I then shared that on social media. The next day, I had another potential sale on the line. I turned that sale into two. I then shared that on social media. One of the reasons I like to share the sales on social media is because it often stimulates more sales. They seem to come in flurries. It's not about bragging or ego. It's about snowballing a success into the next opportunity. There's something that psychologically stimulates an audience when they see an artist has sold something, and it can often lead to an avalanche of opportunity if you can ride the momentum and work it to your advantage.
For all the artists out there, keep up the good fight. When you get your first or next sale, share it. Turn that success into your next. You deserve it.
