Yesterday was the day for my live painting immersive art experience at Sparks Gallery. I wanted to do something with a focus on mental health, so in conjunction with their Pop Art exhibition, I came up with a concept of "Pop Yourself Open." Guests were welcome to come up and pop themselves open, revealing whatever they might be holding on to or need to let go of, perhaps something weighing them down. I live painted around them, weaving their words into the painting, binding them there. We had black pens, but also fluorescent pens that were almost invisible to the eye without a blacklight for those that wanted to be more discreet. I really enjoyed being able to share the meaning and intention of the piece with the guests. The world could use a little more hope right now, and by a little, I mean all the hope š
Adjacent to my art experience, I also brought several important pieces to showcase, including the latest piece from my new series "TBI (T.he B.oy I.nside)," and a couple of the historic pieces from my "Beautiful Accidents" collection. My "Beautiful Accidents" collection is inspired by the Japanese aesthetics of wabi-wabi and shibui. The pieces I brought for the event were created by wiping the excess paint from my palette knife for years and years as I created in my studio. Each painting is a texture roadmap of my journey. The two I chose to feature for this event each probably contain energy spanning about 5 years and 100+ stories. Even better, you can touch them. In fact, it's encouraged. It's one of the reasons I love to bring these to events and festivals š¼ļø
